Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has been the medium to remove the content that disturbs a section of audience or brings out unnecessary clashes among the people. The new guidelines are having an adverse effect on films that are being released in the country and especially, adult comedies have become the target for them.
Many recent films like Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 and Mastizaade suffered with the censor board. The movies had to wait for over months to get certified and get a release date. Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 has been awarded A certificate with 150 cuts which is horrible to listen. The makers revealed that the complete content of the film has been trimmed and the movie failed badly at the box-office.
The same is the case with Mastizaade as the movie has been put on hold for over six months which is not a small time. The makers have spent days with the revising committee to get it certified. The movie passed on with A certificate and released recently.
An important source from the industry revealed “Censor Board has been killing the genre completely. There are audience for these movies after which many filmmakers have been showing interest in making them. It is a section of audience that will be entertained and the rest will stay away. Who is Censor Board to trim the content completely?”.
A member from the Censor board has a different story to tell, “We are not concerned about the content and we have a view which we follow completely. It’s completely non-sense to hear that films fail because of censor board”.
With tough guidelines and limitations, many filmmakers who had thoughts of making adult films are now backing up thinking that their film will be hammered completely by the censor board.
